Job Details

Senior Design Engineer whose responsibilities will include;
• Work closely with the Program Manager and other team members to ensure that end user needs identified through research are satisfied by the delivery of innovative design solutions
• Work with Innovation team in Pre-Milestone phase to ensure concepts are robust for high volume manufacture
• Generating product layouts early in the design phase and initial BOM’s to be created to define complexity of program and resource required
• Lead Product Development Team in: defining the product specification, evaluating and resolving safety and quality issues, competitive product analysis and patent clearance
• Working with PM to split out workload between members of program team and ensuring keys dates are delivered
• Generating product design for all allocated parts within a program from material choice to prototying and testing of those parts and associated assemblies
• Ensuring tolerance stack ups are completed and reviewed on all critical components
• To collaborate closely with our external technology partners and suppliers in the development process, from concept through to manufacture
• Ensure that proposed platforms are effective and reliable
• Ensure that component costs are competitive and provide an ongoing identification of cost reduction and product improvement opportunities
• Involvement in planning and execution of objectives comply with the product milestone process and product roads
• Reviewing patent applications to ensure new ideas are protected and we can design around existing patents
• Writing detailed Product Specifications to ensure compliance during manufacture
• Ensuring that proposed designs comply with global standards and legislation
• Ensuring that proposed designs are acceptable to internal Safety Committee
• Reporting to Senior Management on PDR’s / Safety Reviews and Pre-Milestone calls as required
• To co-ordinate / supervise Design Engineer, Entry level Design Engineer, Graduates or students as required

Experience / Qualifications

You will have an engineering background and ideally have strong proven people management skills gained from an automotive and/or engineering business. With previous experience in a customer facing role
Strong organisational skills
Attention to detail
Experience of using MS Project
Good with people

Salary / Shifts

Circa £40,000
